Depth-Resolved Compaction Profiles

GPS-Referenced Turf Assessments

10,000 Profiles And USB Export

Two Cone Tips For Different Soils

For turf managers checking whether traffic, moisture or wear has created dense layers through the rootzone, the Spectrum Technologies SC950 Soil Compaction Meter provides a clear depth based profile of soil resistance across greens, tees, fairways and sports turf. Its load cell sensor measures cone index in kPa or PSI, while the ultrasonic depth sensor records readings from 0 to 45cm in approximately 2.5cm increments.

The backlit FieldScout display shows compaction results as a graph or table, with built in GNSS and Bluetooth supporting location referenced readings and live viewing through the FieldScout Mobile App. With storage for up to 10,000 profiles, USB CSV export, optional SpecConnect cloud reporting, 13mm and 20mm cone tips, a detachable two piece probe and carrying case, it is a practical tool for assessing compaction before and after aeration or other turf management work.

Mobile phone holder not included - Available for separate purchase.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Depth-Resolved Compaction Profiles

Measures cone index from the surface to 45cm deep in approximately 2.5cm steps, showing where resistance changes through the rootzone rather than relying on a single surface reading.

GPS-Referenced Turf Assessments

Built-in GNSS records measurement locations, while Bluetooth sends live readings to the FieldScout Mobile app for reviewing compaction across greens and other managed turf areas.

10,000 Profiles And USB Export

Stores up to 10,000 profiles internally and exports readings as CSV files using a USB flash drive. Optional SpecConnect cloud access enables further mapping, trends and reporting.

Two Cone Tips For Different Soils

Includes a 13mm cone for most soils and a 20mm cone for coarser, sandier profiles, plus a removable extension rod, depth target plate and carrying case for field use.

FAQs

Got questions? You are in the right place. These quick answers cover the details most customers ask before they buy.

How can SC950 readings help plan aeration?

Depth-by-depth resistance readings help identify compacted layers and compare soil conditions before and after aeration. For meaningful comparisons, take measurements when the soil has adequate moisture, such as after rainfall.

How deep does the meter measure compaction?

It measures from 0 to 45cm deep in approximately 2.5cm increments, displaying cone index in kPa or PSI. The stated depth accuracy is +/-1.25cm.

Which cone tip should be used on sandy greens?

The supplied 20mm cone is recommended for coarse or sandy soils that offer less penetration resistance. The supplied 13mm cone is appropriate for most other soil types.

Can compaction readings be mapped across the course?

Yes. Built-in GNSS can attach location coordinates to readings, and Bluetooth allows live viewing in the FieldScout Mobile app. Detailed cloud maps, heat maps and reports are available through a separate SpecConnect subscription.

Can measurements be saved without a cloud subscription?

Yes. The meter can store up to 10,000 profiles in its internal memory and export them as CSV files to a compatible FAT32 USB flash drive. SpecConnect cloud reporting is an optional subscription.

What is supplied with the SC950 meter?

The package includes the SC950 meter, detachable extension rod, 13mm and 20mm cone tips, depth target plate, carrying case and four AA lithium batteries installed in the meter.
